About Us

David and Karen met at Chef Training School in 1981, and made Whistler home in the winter of 1982. From there they went on to work seasonally in many fine restaurants in Kelowna, Whistler, Banff, New Zealand and Australia. In 1988 they opened their catering business, started their family and settled down in Whistler. Dave and Karen are both certified Red Seal Chefs and with over 60 years combined experience in the hospitality industry, the Kay’s have many skills to pass on to you.

Since 1988, we have been cooking up meals for Whistler guests and locals alike. We have catered over 100 weddings, many commercial shoots and film crew meals, corporate events, staff parties and have been private Chalet Chefs for people from all over the world. In addition we have been providing many of the Whistler cafés with fine baked goods. As well we offer private and group cooking classes, with an array of menus ranging from vegan to decadent for you to choose.

David specializes in meats, seafoods and sauces, combining his European training and West Coast cooking experience. Karen specializes in vegetarian cooking, and complements all of their menus with wonderful grain and vegetable dishes. She became a certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant in 1992, and was Community kitchen coordinator for Whistler Community Services for 5 years. Karen published her first vegan cookbook in May 2009, Harvest Cuisine (whole foods cooking) and teaches healing foods cooking classes from her book.

The Kay’s have also been a part of the Whistler Farmer's Market for many years and believe in using fresh unprocessed food, fresh locally grown products and quality ingredients in all their dishes. From soups to dressings, breads to desserts, everything is made from scratch in their kitchen. In the Whistler summer they grow fresh organic herbs, edible flowers and vegetables on their property in Alpine Meadows to compliment their meals.
